Juggling without looking

September 29, 2007

I’m trying to get out of the habit of staring at my juggling balls while I juggle. It’s harder. I can do some contact juggling with my eyes closed, but not everything. And I’m working on looking through the cascade while juggling (this way I can watch TV while juggling!).

I did find some discussion here and, of course, there are some videos on youtube. I find it kind of peaceful to contact juggle in a pitch dark room.

Berkeley Juggling Festival

September 28, 2007

Ok, the Portland Juggling Festival is coming up first, but I’m going to the Berkeley Juggling & Unicycling festival

I’ve never been to a Juggling Festival before, but am looking forward to it. I hope to pick up some new toys. I want to get started on multi-ball contact, but I’ve only got one acrylic sphere so far.

Random Notes on Learning to Juggle

September 28, 2007

I felt the need for a place to write things down as I learn to juggle, and decided that I might as well write them where other people can read them. Perhaps some of you have helpful suggestions.

I’m primarily working on contact juggling, but in the background am also juggling balls and bean bags. The contact juggling’s been going on for about for about six months, the ball & bean bag juggling for about three.

I’m not terribly co-ordinated, but at least I drop the ball a lot less than I used to!

Amusingly enough, the skill that seems to have developed the most is grabbing dropped balls before they get away from me. I was juggling in the dark the other day, and bobble a ball, and caught it (without seeing it). I guess I’ve learned something.
